I have asked myself after all my work, school, and training–why design? Why am I drawn to this?
I have at many points walked through an attempt at creating a design and not even glanced upon the motivation or grounds for what I created. I look at the design and I am pleased with what I see and what I think it accomplished. But in the back of my mind there is something else. There is something other than just the mere attraction of complicated overlays or the simplicity of beautiful typography.

Since I was a child I was captivated by art. Anytime I was around a crayon I had to turn the wax of it into a picture on a piece of paper. I was never pushed to be artistic or needed motivation to lean towards the design world. Because of this I know there is more to art and design than just aesthetic beauty and it being a hobby.

Through my work and schooling I have begun to understand what this other aspect to art is. I realize that it is something that you live. Everywhere you go you see design and whether you acknowledge it or not, it remains. It affects nearly every aspect of your life; from the things you buy and why you buy them to how you want to be perceived and recognized by others. Some overlook it completely and some dive in, oblivious to anything else.

I realize that any talent I have is because of God and His grace to me. Because of this I am striving to develop in my talents and appreciation of design and art. I have miles to go to gain a true understanding of art; and when I get there I know I still have a long way to go. I look forward to developing as a designer. I have numerous goals for my design career, but one that I value more than others is that of my desire to learn from those around me. I know that everyone has different experiences. Learning of those can assist me in my journey down the
road of design.

D. H. Lawrence said, “Design in art, is a recognition of the relation between various things, various elements in the creative flux. You can't invent a design. You recognize it, in the fourth dimension. That is, with your blood and your bones, as well as with your eyes."
